Working with Animals

If your agency tracks working animals (K9s and others), the K9 Assets section appears in your left-hand menu. This page explains when it shows up and how to find the animals assigned to you. For the full admin workflow — adding animals, handler assignments, veterinary and certification records — see the Animal Management guide.

Animal Management is an optional module

Animals is turned off by default. An Agency Admin enables it under Agency Settings → Feature Settings. If you don't see the K9 Assets menu and your agency works with K9s, ask your admin whether the module is enabled.

When the K9 Assets section appears

The K9 Assets section shows in your menu once the Animal Management feature is enabled for your agency. Individual animals then appear beneath it for any animal assigned to you — as the primary handler or through an active handler assignment.

What's in the K9 Assets section

For everyone (when the feature is on):

  • Agency K9s — the agency's full animal roster
  • K9 Settings — administrative settings (Agency Admins only)

For each animal assigned to you, an entry with:

  • Profile — the animal's detailed profile
  • Certifications — the animal's certifications
  • Training Log — the animal's training records

Troubleshooting

I don't see the K9 Assets section

  • Check the module is on. Ask your Agency Admin to confirm Animal Management is enabled in Agency Settings → Feature Settings. It is off by default.
  • Confirm your agency access. Make sure you're signed in to the right agency and your membership is active.

The section is there, but my animals aren't listed

  • Check your assignment. You'll only see an animal if you're its primary handler or have an active handler assignment (not expired).
  • Refresh the page. Your assigned animals load when the menu first opens.

For agency administrators

Enable the module

  1. Go to Agency Settings → Feature Settings
  2. Enable Animals / K9s
  3. Save

Assign an animal to a handler

  1. Open Agency K9s
  2. Select an animal to edit
  3. Set the Primary Handler, or create a handler assignment
